TranslatePress Shopify App

The TranslatePress Shopify App auto‑translates your whole store — products, collections, pages, blog posts, theme text, notifications, and image alt text — with AI, and serves each language through Shopify’s native URLs (e.g. /fr). Shoppers switch languages with a storefront switcher.

We’ll go through step by step on how to set up and use the app.

Getting Started

Install & Open The TranslatePress Shopify App

1. In the Shopify admin, click the Search bar (top).
2. Type TranslatePress and select it from the results.

Or: Settings → Apps → TranslatePress → Open app.

The TranslatePress for Shopify Dashboard

The dashboard has four areas:

• Plan & AI words (top left) — current plan, Upgrade/Change plan, and the AI Words this period meter.
• Languages (centre) — default language + your translation languages.
• Managed content (top right) — counts of translatable content, Last scan, and Logs.
• Language switcher (bottom right) — storefront switcher setup.

Choose Or Upgrade Your Plan

1. Click Upgrade (or Change plan) on the dashboard.
2. Pick a plan and click Test with this plan / Select. (On development stores, every plan is free to test.)
3. On Shopify’s Approve charge screen, choose Monthly or Yearly and click Approve.

Higher plans raise the auto‑translate language count and AI‑word allowance and unlock Glossary and Search & replace — see Plans At A Glance at the end.

Set Up Your Languages

Add Languages

1. On the dashboard, click Add language.
2. Search for a language and click Add next to it.
3. Repeat for each language you want (up to your plan’s limit).

Each language runs a content scan and appears in the Languages list with a progress %.

Turn Auto-Translation On & Choose Which Content Gets Translated

1. In the Languages list, tick Auto on each language you want translated automatically.
2. TranslatePress translates eligible fields and re‑translates when content changes.

• Plan limit: the number of Auto languages is capped by your plan (Free 1, Starter 2, Business 5, Pro 10).
• Scope: expand Content to choose which content types are included. Theme and Settings strings are off by default (Shopify localizes most of them) — toggle a type back on to include it.

Refine Your Translations

Edit Translations By Hand

1. Click Translate on a language to open the editor (a list of content Translation Types).
2. Open a type (e.g. Products) and choose an item.
3. The Original is on the left; type your Translation on the right and click Save.

• Untick Auto‑translate this string on any field to lock a manual translation while the rest keeps auto‑translating.

Translate Image Alt Text

TranslatePress translates each image’s alt text per language (better accessibility + image SEO; the image file itself is shared across languages).

1. Open Translate → Product images.
2. Select an image.
3. Enter the translated Alt text and click Save (or leave Auto‑translate this string on to do it automatically).

Keep Your Content Consistent with Glossary (Starter, Business, Pro)

Control how specific terms are translated everywhere. Open Glossary (left menu), then:

1. Enter a Term.
2. Either tick Keep original (never translate it — for brand names, SKUs, product names), or type a fixed Translation for each language.
3. Click Add term.

Rules apply on the next auto‑translation.

Bulk-Edit Wording with Search & Replace (Starter, Business, Pro)

Rewrite wording across existing translations in bulk (updates the live storefront immediately; does not affect the glossary or future auto‑translations).

1. Open Search & Replace.
2. Enter text under Find, choose a Language (or All languages), and click Search to preview matches.
3. Type the Replacement text and click Replace all.

Publish & Go Live

Publish Your Languages

1. Click Publish on each language in the Languages list.
2. Confirm in Settings → Languages — published languages show Published and appear in the storefront switcher.

Unpublished languages are hidden from the storefront until published.

Add a Language Switcher to Your Storefront

In the dashboard’s Language switcher card, click Setup next to Floating Switcher (a corner pill) or Inline Switcher (a theme block). The Shopify Theme Editor opens with the switcher enabled:

1. Adjust Position, Background/Text/Border color, Display style, Flag style, Language names, and Flag position.
2. Click Save.

Checkout is translated by Shopify, so the switcher does not appear in checkout.

View Your Translated Store

1. Open your storefront.
2. Click the floating switcher and pick a language.

Shopify loads the localized URL (e.g. /fr) and serves the translated content.

Monitor & Manage

The Activity Log

Open Logs (dashboard) to see scans, auto‑translations, language changes, billing, and sync events, with search.
